There’s something really special about a backyard wedding reception. It feels relaxed in a way that big venues sometimes can’t quite match. This day was the perfect example of that. It was intimate, so meaningful, and full of the kind of moments that matter most.

As a Twin Cities wedding photographer, these are the days that light me up!

After getting legally married earlier in the Spring, these two chose to celebrate again with their favorite people in a space that felt like home. And honestly, it made everything feel more personal from the very start.

A Celebration Just For Them

The vibe of the day was effortless and genuine. And lot of laughter! These two just have infectious joy! And they looked AMAZING too! What incredible style!

We started off their day taking portraits in front of the home. You could tell they were still just glowing from becoming newlyweds.

Getting to share their love and excitement with their closest friends and family was so special.

This was a day they'll never forget. And I felt so honored to capture that as their wedding photographer.

After joining their guests for their backyard wedding reception, the festivities kicked off!

And by festivities, I mean everything from beer pong (yes they are that cool) to glow sticks on the dance floor all night long.

Their friends were quick to jump in and celebrate, dancing the night away with contagious joy. Their pup even joined them on the dance floor!

The decor was also a stand-out!

I see so many different themes and color schemes for the weddings I photograph, and I love to see everyone's personalities come out this way.

They chose to have long tables under a reception tent on the lawn for their backyard wedding.

Wildflowers everywhere and organic vibes in the place settings and fabric choices. Oversized armchairs on the lawn. Beautiful seating charts and personalized details.

They made sure to have twinkle lights everywhere for when the light faded too, and that cast the most romantic and nostalgic glow on the celebration.

Here's why a backyard wedding reception works so well...

One of the best parts of this day was how the space was used. Instead of everything happening in one spot, guests were able to move around and experience the celebration in different ways.

It created a natural flow and gave everyone room to relax, connect, and enjoy the day at their own pace.

A few things that made it all come together:

  • Multiple areas for guests to gather and hang out

  • Open lawn space for mingling and portraits

  • Cozy corners that felt intimate and quiet

  • A reception setup that encouraged movement and conversation

It never felt crowded or rushed. It just felt easy.

If you're dreaming of a celebration that feels like this, a backyard wedding might be your vibe.
